Community Education

Piedmont Newnan Hospital strives to enhance the wellness of the community by providing quality community education activities and classes.

Instruction on high blood pressure, stroke, cardiac disease, cancer risks, and self exams are shared through health fairs. Support groups provide education and support to those who are coping with chronic conditions such as diabetes, cancer, and lung disease.

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (HCP) 4.5 hours

Description: An American Heart Association Course.
The BLS for Healthcare Providers Course covers core material such as adult and pediatric CPR (including two-rescuer scenarios and use of the bag mask), foreign-body airway obstruction, and automated external defibrillation.

Audience:
For healthcare providers such as EMS personnel, physician assistants, doctors, dentists, nurses, and respiratory therapists who must have a credential (card) documenting successful completion of a CPR course.

AHA Online Courses: Skills Practice Session and Skills Test -1 hour

Fee:         $17.50 online, plus $ 25 skills practice session at Piedmont Newnan Hospital

Description: An American Heart Association Course.
Once you have completed the online portion (Part 1) of the course, you go to an authorized American Heart Association Training Center (Piedmont Newnan Hospital) for (part 2) the skills practice session and skills test. After you have completed both sections of the course, you will be issued a course completion card.

Audience:
Those individuals who prefer self paced learning on the computer at a time convenient for their schedule.

The Family & Friends First Aid for Children program teaches how to manage illness and injuries in a child for the first few minutes until professional help arrives.  This program covers such topics as preventing injuries, recognizing and treating basic first aid emergencies, and relief of choking in infants and children.

Audience:
For those caring for infants and children, such as family members, babysitters, and others providing in-home care, who want basic first aid information but who do not need a course completion credential.

Description:
This program is the American Lung Association's Freedom from Smoking clinic. It is a seven-session clinic sponsored by Piedmont Newnan Hospital. Professionally trained instructors help smokers create a supportive environment to break the smoking addictions. Each smoker who joins this clinic will develop an individual plan for quitting. Emphasis will be on long-term freedom from smoking. The ex-smokers will identify the pitfalls of relapse, and carefully plan to prevent it. The clinic includes the latest improved skills for good stress management, weight control, assertive communication and exercise - skills to help them succeed. The instructor will teach a step-by-step method for changing behavior and quitting smoking. This group approach uses positive thinking, alternative behaviors, one-on-one help, rewards and group support to help participants stop smoking.

Audience:
Anyone interested in quitting smoking.

Program that teaches beauty techniques to women cancer patients in active treatment to help them combat the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. Free, non-medical product neutral program offered in partnership with the American Cancer Society, the National Cosmetology Association, and The Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association Foundation, a charitable organization supported by the cosmetic industry.

Audience:
Women cancer patients in active treatment.

Description:
Breastfeeding is one of the healthiest choices a mother can make for her child.  Breastfeeding is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.  This class is designed to help expectant moms and their partner learn the basics of breastfeeding. Taught by International Board Certified lactation Consultant the class will help mothers learn the basic skills necessary to make breastfeeding successful.

Audience:
Parents-to-be that want to learn more about breastfeeding.

To Schedule an appointment:

You must be scheduled for the class at least two business days prior to the class date. There must be a minimum of four paid registrants for the class to be presented. You will be notified if the class does not meet registration requirements and will be given a full refund. All other cancellations must be made 48 hours in advance of the class to be eligible for a refund.

You must be scheduled for the class in order to make a payment on the class.
Once you have been scheduled and pre registered the scheduler will transfer you to the cashier for you to make payment by credit or debit card; or you may contact the Cashier directly at:
